What materials are best for fire hose coatings and cover layers?
Fire hoses come in a wide variety of styles and structures. However, their basic structure consists of five components: a fabric layer, a lining, a coating, a covering layer, and an adhesive layer.
Coatings
The outer surface of the hose fabric can be coated with flexible polymer coatings such as polyurethane (PU) and polyacrylates. Domestic export-oriented manufacturers typically use water-based polyurethane (PU) coatings and/or water-based styrene-acrylic emulsions as the primary film-forming materials for fire hose coatings. Additives such as curing agents, thickeners, catalysts, leveling agents, pigments, dispersants, and deionized water are added as needed to design a coating formula that meets specific requirements.
Covering
Double-sided adhesive tapes contain a covering layer. Its material properties and selection are generally similar to those of the lining, but its thickness is slightly less. The covering layer can be designed with a "ribbed" structure along the length of the hose. This structure improves the hose's wear resistance and enhances firefighters' grip.
